Sleep therapy can help you rebuild trust in your sleep
Insomnia can be exhausting and make you question your ability to sleep. Sleep therapy can help you understand what is keeping your sleep difficulties going and find ways to gradually return to more restful nights.

What happens in sleep therapy?
Sleep therapy is a non-pharmacological treatment for insomnia and other sleep difficulties. It draws on evidence-based knowledge about sleep as well as cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), tailored to your individual situation.
In sleep therapy, we work together to understand why sleep has become difficult and what may be keeping your insomnia going. The aim is not to try harder to sleep, but to reduce the worry, effort and heightened arousal that can become associated with sleep. You will learn approaches tailored to your situation that can gradually help you rebuild trust in your ability to sleep.
My approach is based on evidence-based methods. I adapt them to your individual situation and needs. My work is also informed by the Holistic Sleep SCFA® approach we have developed.
Who is sleep therapy for?
Sleep therapy may be helpful for you if, for example:
- you have difficulty falling asleep or wake during the night
- you wake too early and cannot get back to sleep
- you find yourself worrying about sleep during the day or evening
- you try hard to make sleep happen, but the effort seems to make sleeping more difficult
- your sleep difficulties have continued for a long time or tend to return
- you would like to explore non-medication approaches to support your sleep
If you use sleep medication: If you would like to reduce your medication, this can be taken into account in our work together, in collaboration with the doctor responsible for your medication.
You don’t need to wait until your insomnia becomes severe before seeking help. Sleep therapy can also be useful when you notice that sleep has started to take up too much space in your thoughts and your life.

Supporting you towards more restful sleep
I’m Päivi Karhu, a sleep therapist and solution-focused brief therapist. I help people when sleep has started to take up too much space in their thoughts and everyday life.
My approach combines evidence-based knowledge about sleep, therapeutic work and practical methods. I also know from personal experience what it feels like when sleep becomes difficult and starts to take up too much space in life. It is important to me that sleep therapy does not become another thing to perform or get right. Together, we look for approaches that fit your individual situation and help reduce sleep-related worry and hyperarousal.
In sleep therapy, you can come to each session just as you are. You don’t need to know how to sleep better or succeed at any exercises.
Experiences of sleep therapy
“After the very first session, I understood better why I was trying so hard to sleep. My relationship with sleep changed, and my nights gradually became calmer.”
”I gained a completely new understanding of what was keeping my insomnia going. Most importantly, I realised that I didn’t need to try to sleep better.“
